What is Shiatsu

Shiatsu is therapeutic massage.  It is a modern Japanese approach to manual medicine derived from Chinese medical concepts and its off-shoots.  With similarities to amma, tuina (acupressure), watsu (water shiatsu), Tibetan point holding, and Thai massage, it combines compressive manipulation, stretches and joint mobilisation to elicit responses in the nervous and circulatory systems.  Its effects are reflexive, meaning it can stimulate the nervous, endocrine and energy systems of the body, as well mechanical.  Shiatsu is suitable for all ages,  usually practiced at floor-level, it can also be perfomed on a massage table.
